Avoid The Stress Of Pests

Dealing With Pest Issues During Times Of Self-Isolation, Quarantine, And Social Distancing

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, more and more people find themselves staying home. Whether it’s due to quarantine, self-isolation, or just social distancing, a lot of people are suddenly spending a whole lot more time at home. This extra time at home can alter the normal dynamics of a household. More meals being prepared at home, more garbage and waste being produced, more laundry, more crafts, more playing with pets, more mess, and more people. Normal routines are being adjusted because with everyone at home, there is not as much time or space as there used to be. Family members are competing for TV time, kitchen time, bathroom time, chores, and quiet time for self-care. In a large family, this can mean a lot of extra planning, stress, and coordination efforts. Not to mention, this is all happening under the stress and duress of job losses, reduced or eliminated income, being isolated from friends, family and coworkers, as well as fears and anxiety over finances and health concerns.

All of these changes to routine, and extra time and activities within the home, also bring another threat. The threat of indoor pests. With the added food prep, garbage, laundry, and bathroom usage, even for an average family of 4, it can be quite difficult to keep up on the seemingly endless cleaning and tidying. All of this extra indoor activity, combined with rushed grocery trips, or grocery packages being collected and dropped off by other people, can lead to the perfect storm for pest infestations. Mice, cockroaches, bed bugs, flies, pantry pests, and ants all thrive in human homes, and all are very common household pests in Calgary. The busier the home, and the more people living there, the more attractive the home can be for pests. And the last thing anyone wants to deal with on top of everything else going on in the world, is a pest infestation.

So, just like regularly washing our hands, it is important to regularly check for pests. Keeping things clean and tidy will make it a lot easier to spot pest activity early. Its also important to inspect all items coming into the house. Used furniture, bulk food, produce, house plants, transplanted soil, contaminated pet food, and used clothing are common ways that cockroaches, bed bugs, ants and pantry pests can enter your home. Mice will be more likely to enter through a hole, gap or space around the foundation of your home and then will find key nesting sites and food once inside. Flies are the easiest to manage as they will only be attracted to rotting or decaying matter such as garbage, feces, old food, spills, drain build-up or dead flesh. Flies can also be quickly eliminated by removing this decaying matter from the home, although it can sometimes be difficult to locate.

If you do find evidence of pests, don’t panic. Give us a call, and we can help you all the way through the process. Often, we can identify pests based on a photograph and a bit of information. Depending on the type of pest, we can either provide you with step-by-step instructions to eliminate the pest on your own (video conferencing options are available), or we can send out an investigator to deal with the problem.

Except for bed bugs, and some spider infestations, we can treat for most standard indoor pests on-the-spot without you or your pets having to leave the home. Our treatments are fully guaranteed and safe for people and pets. Our investigators are professional, exceptionally trained and educated with the latest information and procedures to not only exterminate pests, but to keep them gone and keep your family, pets, and the environment safe in the process.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, our investigators will be wearing extra protective gear anytime they are required to enter a home, this includes face masks, gloves, and protective shoe covers. We have also ramped up cleaning and sanitation procedures to include the cleaning of all handheld tools and equipment after each job. This includes flashlights, cell phones, inspection mirrors, Point Of Sale machines, and any application equipment, tool boxes or cases that may get brought into a home. We are also currently not accepting cash payments at this time.

Outdoor Pests

For outdoor pests, such as skunks, squirrels, voles, gophers, pigeons, raccoons or porcupines, our work can be done completely free of contact. We accept E-Transfers or payments over the phone with all major credit cards, so you don’t even need to answer the door. We simply make all the arrangements with you by phone, text, or e-mail, and then we show up at the scheduled time and perform the required work.
